Tablet Market To Witness Unprecedented Growth
IHS iSuppli has indicated in a report that Media and PC Tablets would see growth from the present 17.4 million units as of 2010 to 242.3 million by 2015, that is by a factor of nearly twelve times.
iPad, had started the wave, and Android devices provided the momentum. Over 80 tablets were displayed at the CES. The third wave, expected in 2013, would see Windows based tablets entering the traditional computer markets.
The iPad, considered as a media tablet, would grow to 39.3 million units by 2015, up from 2.3 million units in 2010, the report said. The introduction of 4G technology and LTE pitching in, would herald the second wave with Android OS based tablets holding the rein. The possibility of Apple rolling out a MacOS tablet also cannot be ruled out. 2013 would be a crucial period, with many OEMs churning out media based tablets using mobile operating systems, and PC-type tablets empowered by the Windows OS. With a slew of improvements with every release and newer models, the tablet/smart- phones market would see a period of the ‘golden revolution’.
