Solar Flare Radiation And Northern Light Displays

The Sun is being subjected to a huge solar flare and radiation emanating from the solar ‎flare has been reaching the Earth since Friday. The radiation could cause radio blackouts and impede communication channels and ‎satellites. Brilliant Northern Light displays are expected to be visible this time around.‎

According to NASA scientists, the solar flares are classified as the X-class solar flare, ‎occurring for the first time since more than four years. X-class flares are reputed to be the ‎most powerful of all solar flare events that can lead to radio blackouts and long duration ‎radiation storms.‎

This is one of a series of three solar flares occurring prompting a conjecture that a fresh ‎solar cycle may be brewing. The event may also mark one of the first real solar events ‎connecting to the next solar maximum – by which one would see the maximum number ‎of solar flares taking place.‎

Generally solar flare based activities typically reach high levels in eleven-year cycles. ‎The earlier cycle was one of the quietest ever 11-year periods.‎

Solar flares refer to severe, short-duration outbursts of high energy. Solar flares can be ‎easily seen as bright areas on the sun, emitting high levels of radiation and releasing high ‎volumes of charged particles that can build up very strong solar winds — electrically ‎charged particles being discharged incessantly in an outward direction from the sun.‎
