Skype is planning to release video capable iPhone Application using their iOS platform.

Slype to Skype video applications using WiFi and 3G is going to be a reality. iPhone4, iPhone 3GS and 4G iPod touch, would be able to support two way video calls while their predicissors can only receive the calls one way. Skype 3 would require iOS4 and above to bring video calls to your device. Skype is being offered as a free download application.

Skype has already bagged over 500 million enthusiastic customers, and their video on offer would be stiff opposition to Apple’s Face Time application. Skype operations last week had suffered a massive setback as some of its old servers based on Windows created an outage that lasted over 24 hours. This setback could have them worried.

Apple in the meantime is busy bringing its FaceTime by incorporating cameras in their devices, iPod for one has been fitted with front facing cameras. Open standards, such as IETF standards and familiar codecs are being aggressively promoted by Apple in the race to make FaceTime a reality in a race against time.
