Windows 7 has showcased ‘The RM Slate’ tablet PC with a 29.5cm multi-touch screen packed with wireless technologies, microphone, camera, speakers and handwriting recognition software. RM is set to introduce Beyond Data, a professional development application aimed at helping teachers to compile data to make better decisions.
Promethean’s ActivBoard 500 Pro system is an example of interactive whiteboard multi-touch technology being used in schools by teachers. This allows two students simultaneously to use two pens, and the multiple touch technology handles the flow of lesson in an interesting way to the students.
The ActivBoard 500 Pro enables using maths tools, like rulers to be be resized with fingers. Whiteboards make the subject of teaching even more interactive and brings iPad-type technology to students.
SMART Board 800 series supports multi-user writing as well as multi-touch gestures. The SMART Document Camera 330, combines 2D and 3D images with real-world objects. Texthelp’s Read&Write 10 can help improve reading, writing and literacy skills of students. Go-Robo Programmer from Q4 Technologies works in conjunction with the popular Robosapien robot, makes software writing fun.
Texas Instruments have developed a wide range of 3D-ready DLP projectors. Kudlian’s I Can Present application helps students to create, film and present their work using green-screen technology.
Verismic’s Power Manager software, helps schools to save energy and money by monitoring PC usage. Widgit, is a set of free online tools, Point and Insite. With Point one can get the mouse to point to difficult words. Insite enables content to be published online.
