Netcraft February 2011Survey Results
Netcraft, a Web analytics firm, reported the results of their February 2011 survey, which received responses from as many as 284,842,077 sites.
The highest increase in market share and absolute growth was recorded by Apache, with 9.6 million new hostnames and a corresponding 1 percentage point addition in market share, for the second time in succession. The company had seen an increase of 10.1 million hostnames previously. Apache is in a gradual ascending mode since January 2010. United States contributed the maximum hostnames in February, with an increase of 7 million new Apache hostnames. The highest contributions to Apache came from AmeriNOC and SoftLayer with 4.6 million and 1.3 million, respectively. In Netherlands the Axoft group contributed to a net gain of 817,000 hostnames for the Apache Group. nginx and lighttpd, were the other developers whose market share remained stagnant as a result of the increases in hostnames found for the other major web server vendors.
Microsoft and Google saw a decline in the number of hostnames and market share this month. Microsoft saw a drop of 239,000 hostnames in Germany alone.
