Microsoft Kinect : A Record 50 Million Sold
Microsoft’s Xbox 360 Kinect add-on has become the most sought out consumer electronics device as recorded by Guinness World Records. The motion-sensing controller priced at $199 was released in November 2010 and since then a record 10 million Kinect sensors have been sold worldwide. The average sales per day were placed at 133,333 Kinect units between November 4 last year and January 3 this year.
This was the first time that a consumer electronics device sold so many units within a 60-day time span, which by itself was a noteworthy performance and a new record.
Kinect deploys a 3D camera along with motion recognition software allowing people to play Xbox 360 games using their natural body movements and voice based commands, instead of hand-held controllers.
