Microsoft Kinect : A Record 50 Million Sold

Microsoft’s Xbox 360 Kinect add-on has become the most sought out consumer ‎electronics device as recorded by Guinness World Records. The motion-sensing controller priced at ‎‎$199 was released in November 2010 and since then a record 10 million Kinect sensors ‎have been sold worldwide.‎ The average sales per day were placed at 133,333 Kinect units between November 4 last year and ‎January 3 this year.‎

Kinect deploys a 3D camera along with motion recognition software allowing people to play ‎Xbox 360 games using their natural body movements and voice based commands, instead ‎of hand-held controllers.‎ This is marked deviation entailing viewers to experiment various bodily movements and gestures, to get them excited.

Many hardware manipulators have adapted Kinect for a wide spectrum of non-gaming ‎applications, like controlling Windows 7 Personal Computers, commanding robots, playing World of ‎Warcraft etc assessing the user’s body language.‎ KinectHacks.net, provides details on the best uses of Kinect, in a catalogue form to guide users.
