LG To Display Optimus 3D Smart-Phones

LG ectronics has successfully developed Optimus 3D, a new smart-phone capable of ‎recording and displaying 3D images and videos without the need for glasses, and is ‎planning to display the same at the Mobile World Congress (MWC).‎

The smart-phone, a product of LG’s most advanced technology, would come with a ‎dual-lens camera capable of 3D recording along with an LCD panel for glasses-free 3D ‎screening. Phone owners would also be able to let other people to view the content using ‎HDMI or DLNA that would enable the system to connect to a screen located externally or on other ‎other devices.‎

The other technical details, such as the size of the screen, were not revealed. The ‎company had displayed a new 4.3-inch glasses-free 3D screen suitable for mobile devices ‎at the CES held earlier. The display has a resolution of 480 by 800 pixels and is designed ‎for use in smart-phones to see movies or play games.‎

LG’s newly developed 3D display was based on an applied parallax barrier technology, ‎capable of delivering a series of light-blocking slits attached at the front portion of the ‎LCD panel. This is to ensure that the left and right eyes see different images, creating the ‎illusion of depth.‎

LG is keen to tap the smart-phone market by introducing cutting edge technology and in ‎developing new hard-wares. The company had brought out the Optimus 2X earlier, which ‎was a smart-phone running on the Android OS using Nvidia’s dual-core Tegra2 processor ‎capable of 1080p HD video playback and recording.‎
