iPad 2 – Out next February
Digicon has reported that Taiwan based Foxicon, – manufacturer of iPhones and iPads and related electronic components- has been advised to ship the updated versions of the new iPad 2 consignment containing 400,000 to 600,000 pieces by February, 2011. Representatives of Digicon and Apple were not available for their immediate comments.
Originally Apple wanted to release the new version of iPad 2 in January 2011 itself but the firmware of the new product version was still under the process of testing. This had resulted in an inevitable delay of about a month in the scheduled release of iPad 2. iPad 2 is expected to feature a front facing camera to capture the photographers’ market-share. The iPad 2 is also expected to run on both CDMA and GSM networks, a feature not available in their earlier iPad 1, which supported only the GSM network, making the newer version truly ‘Universal’ in application. Qualcom is expected to provide the necessary chips to access both network configurations. A dual mode iPad will be truly appreciated by the present generation of iPad loyalists and Apple followers. It may be noted that AT&T’s 3G version has GSM chips imbedded inside the device whereas in the case of Verizon it comes as a bundled hotspot.
