iPad, iPhone – trends for 2010-11

Products such as iPad and iPhone, targeted with the consumer market in mind are also increasingly being used for performing work-oriented and related tasks.

The Corporate Sector has found that iPhone and iPad have increasingly more applications that trigger their imagination not only of the consumer but for other work related tasks and activities. The year 2011 would attract vendors of enterprise software vying with each other to offer new and unique services to expand their market.

Enterprise software vendors, all along, had been developing client software for mobile handsets. But developing the very same consumer devices, instead of the devices made specifically for the enterprise market, is a new development strategy.

It comes with the realization that the type of devices do not necessarily matter when accessing an application. All goes well so long as one is able to access information to carry out his tasks.

A survey carried out by mobile connectivity management provider iPass has already found that 13% of enterprises have used iPads – mainly brought in by employees – as their primary computing device in place of laptops – indicating that iPads and similar devices would soon replace the laptop as the most preferred computing device in the near future. The use of these devices make life easier for the mobile employees.
