IBM And ARM Combine To Explore New Mobile Markets
IBM and ARM are joining forces to provide the next generation mobile products that would combine both ARM’s processors and IBM’s highly developed 14nm manufacturing process.
With consumer demand for high end features and high battery life increasing, chip designers were looking at ‘nanometer level changes’ to meet performance goals.
The collaboration would align the manufacturing process using ARMs microprocessors to minimize the risk of changeover to the smaller scale manufacturing processes and speed up the evolution of advanced electronics to the market.
It is worthwhile to note that the two together have already successfully merged an ARM Cortex-A9 based processor core on IBM’s new 32nm High-K Metal Gate technology.
