Google To Provide Body Mapping Tool
Google, by developing user friendly applications such as Google Maps and Google Earth have contributed greatly in helping mankind to use maps to usefully locate streets, towns, the universe and its oceans. Now Google is extending the very concept on a more micro level search on human anatomy.
Google is hoping to provide users with a layered, 3D view of the human anatomy. Presently named the Body Browser, the new tool makes extensive use of zoom and pan controls, similar to those in Google Maps and Google Earth, to survey the internals of the human body.
Body Browser, developed in Google Labs, cannot be run on just any browser. Users will need a new browser that supports their latest WebGL graphics standard, made available in their Google Chrome and their latest Firefox beta versions.
The feature allows users identify various human body parts, search for bones, organs and muscles. It also allows users to rotate a 3D body image, peel the skin away and investigate the various epidermal /dermal layers inside.
Google Earth enabled users to obtain a detailed digital map of the planet’s oceans, and added a 3D map of Mars, in their 2009 update. Google collaborated with NASA to get high-resolution imagery for their map offerings.
