Fairview HD Reaches 642,000 Homes

Freeview HD was launched almost nine months ago, in the digital format, and offered for ‎free viewing across UK. Now, after nine months of Freeview launch, Freeview HD is ‎being watched by people at almost 642,000 homes, as reported by the broadcast digital ‎TV brand recently.‎

Just in October 2010, Freeview had reported the figures as 230,000, which means that a ‎near tripling of the audience has occurred within four months.‎ Christmas undoubtedly also contributed a big part in that leap. The debut of a fourth HD ‎channel, BBC One HD would also have had a similar impact during the festive season.‎

It may be noted that a good part of England still does not get Freeview HD, but is ‎available only in a couple of regions after October 2010. It is likely that these regions ‎account only for a very small part of the growth.‎

Also, Freeview HD-tunable based tellies accounted for a quarter of HD TVs sold in ‎December, along with digital tuners. Freeview HD DVRs are said to have outsold ‎receivers by the ratio of two to one.‎ Freeview HD is therefore catching on in the UK. The number of channels, although ‎relatively small, but watching HD programming for free is great. The first HD-capable ‎DVB-T2 tuner for your PC, makes it convenient to watch on your PC too.‎
