ENISA Submits Report On Cloud Computing

‎ ENISA, The European Union’s (EU) cyber security agency has released a new report on governmental ‎cloud computing.

The report, available on the ENISA website, targets senior managers of public institutions ‎regarding the measures of security and resilience to be taken when migrating to the cloud. ‎

The important objective of the report is to encourage governmental agencies to take ‎informed risk based decisions considering the security needs of the data, resilience level ‎of service and legal compliance requirements to be taken before moving to the cloud. Issues concerning ‎the resilience pros and cons of community, public and private modes of cloud computing ‎services for public organizations etc. are to be addressed.‎

ENISA has concluded that private and community clouds offer better solutions to meet ‎the needs of public administration to achieve the highest level of data governance. ‎Formation of an EU governmental cloud is also recommended. As cloud computing will ‎soon serve a significant portion of EU citizens, SMEs and public administrations, ENISA ‎has requested national governments to prepare a cloud computing strategy and examine ‎methods to ensure protection of critical information and infrastructure protection. The ‎national cloud computing strategy should address the issues of national/supra-national ‎interoperability and interdependencies, failures in cascading, and include cloud providers ‎into the reporting schemes of relevant articles 4 and 13 of the new Telecom Framework. ‎
