Dell Starting a Second Chinese Center

Dell, one of the world’s largest computer manufacturers, is now going to start their second center in China, in the world’s largest city: Chengdu. Dell is calling the new Dell Chengdu center their “flagship” manufacturing and customer support center. The new Dell services, sales, and manufacturing center would be in the middle of Western China in line with the Chinese government’s plan of developing the inland regions (as opposed to the more crowded and developed coastal regions).

Amit Midha, President of Dell China, stated:

“The strong Chengdu workforce and our new operations there will better position Dell for additional growth opportunities in western China.”

The new location looks promising for Dell: Sichuan province in China is one of the world’s most populated regions and a major center of business activity.

Michael Dell, founder and chairman of Dell, stated:

“Our tremendous growth in China over the past 12 years reflects the dedication of our more than 6,000 talented Dell team members operating there today. We are committed to the success of our new flagship operation in Chengdu and the promise it holds for all our customers.”

The flagship Chengdu Dell center would be fully operational in the year 2011. Dell also runs a major center in Xiamen (Fujian province, across the ocean from Taiwan).
