Chromium 6 in Drinking Water has EIA concerned
As the level of element chromium 6 in drinking water has exceeded the prescribed limit of0.06 parts per billion, the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency is going all out to monitor chromium 6 levels all over the US. Hinkley is one desert town in the US where high levels of chromium had been causing increased anxiety for many decades.
Chromium 3 variety is less toxic and is used as a dietary supplement. But the very presence of chromium 6 in air is reported to cause cancer in human beings. Presence of chromium 6 in drinking water has established that this causes cancer in rodents. Presently the permissible limit for total chromium in various parts of the US is hundred parts per billion, and in California it is pegged at 50 parts per billion. However, the EPA is planning to focus on this issue and further lower the permissible limit along with steps to reduce the level of chromium in drinking water so that safe and pure water can be made available to all concerned.
