Apple TV Media Player sales hits a new high

Apple has now sold more than 1 million pieces of its Apple TV media player. Everything seemed to go as predicted and as such Apple did not bother to issue a press release. But on enquiry, the news has been confirmed by Apple.

The newly designed Apple TV, sporting new features, and an affordable price tag of $99 was intended to move the Apple TV out from the hobby category and make it a serious sound product. With over1 million devices sold in about three months, Apple seems to have succeeded. Apple had earlier taken the lead in the Internet-based multimedia space with their brand of music players, smart-phones, and very recently their tablets.

However, the company is yet to succeed in convincing TV networks to offer their new episode rentals at 99 cents. Earlier Apple had successfully forced music industry to accept revised lower prices for selling music, as Apple held a large chunk of the market due to their popular iPad / iPod devices and the iTunes store. In the case of the TV market,  Apple would need more viewers before Apple approaches TV networks for cooperating with them to grow their market. Presently movie and TV episodes which are sold at iTunes are available only to Apple TV owners. It may be noted that the new Apple TV is better placed than their new competitor Google TV.
