An Advertising Stunt Results In An Environmental Disaster!
A game-plan to advertise video game Homefront promoted by THQ along with GameStop ended in a massive environmental disaster! They planned to release 10,000 bright red balloons to catch the attention of consumers during a promotion stunt in San Fransisco. Instead, all the balloons released landed in the San Fransisco Bay as a result of bad weather and winds, causing much damage to the environment and a bigger embarrassment to themselves!
Environmentalists were shocked to see thousands of balloons landing straight into the San Fransisco Bay. The Company wanted to stimulate a gimmick using the red balloons but ended up red faced after the pictures were flashed in the Facebook and Flickr, which were later accompanied by a lot of anguish and criticism. Angry e-mails poured in from various lobbies questioning the wisdom of the perpetuating agencies, regulating agencies and the Government’s role in the fiasco. The San Fransisco Bay has been polluted and needs to be cleaned and the delicate natural balance protecting life sustaining systems restored. But the harm has been done. Who is to be blamed for such painful disasters? And how such painful events can be prevented without occurring in the future?
