QuadraNet Incorporated is announcing the formation of a new datacentre in the Dallas-Texas area. This new datacenter is only the first in a series of new data centers planned by QuadraNet for the United States region.

Christopher-Gotzmann, Vice President of QuadraNet Incorporated, said:

“[Dallas, Texas] is the 1st of multiple planned locations for QuadraNet. We understand the needs of our customers and are working hard to meet them. Multiple locations will provide our customers with the ability to target localized regions of the [United States of America], thereby increasing speeds and lowering latency as services will be delivered more locally to their user bases. In addition to the localized speed improvements, our customers will be able to operate mirror copies of their websites and applications hosted in completely diverse locations for the ultimate in redundancy, load-balancing, and backups.”

The addition of a new datacenter will surely help lower redudancy, improving speed for the thousands of QuardraNet customers who rely on them. QuadraNet coined the phrase “The Ultimate Datacenter” for themselves explaining that the systems-administrators with them are given a level of control over their QuadraNet dedicated hosting solutions not typically offered by other companies’ dedicated services.

Telehouse is making a big announcement. “Telehouse West” had it’s official opening on Wedsneday, March 31st, 2010. The facility costed an amazing 80 million British pounds to build. That’s roughly 120 million US dollars.

Michelle Reid, Sales and Marketing Director of Telehouse, announced:

“In a recent survey of UK decisionmakers from some of the country’s top organizations, 89% stated they were keen to secure additional datacenter space. This trend is supported by many analysts who have stated that a lack of capacity in the capital is costing the UK economy millions.”

With the opening, TelehouseWest is offering a new datacentre to support UK business operations with connectivity to over 400 internetserviceproviders (ISPs), carriers, and operators. In this new facility, there are four redundant HV power systems that have achieved reliability levels of 99.999%.

MichelleReid also stated:

“Telehouse West offers UK businesses access to the latest services, including KDDI’s global network infrastructure and range of end-to-end services including system integration, network services and ICT consultancy. Businesses will also be able to access a highly secure, resilient connection between the company’s network of global data centre facilities, including London, Paris, NewYork and LosAngeles, through the Global InterLink service.”

This latest expansion comes on the heels of two other expansions. Telehouse has also expanded into South Africa and Vietnam. Telehouse’s global data center “footprint” is roughly 120,000m².

HostV has just declared available a brand new line of VPS servers. The VPS (VirtualPrivateServers) servers start at the low price of $29.99 USD per month. The DEV-VPS plans also comes with the option of choosing between a 32-bit or 64-bit platform. There are also a number of operating systems available, including Fedora Core 9, Fedora 11, Fedora 12, Centos 4, Centos 5, Debian, and Ubuntu 9.10. Virtuozzo 4 is also available.

John Xie, President of Cirtex Corporation, HostV’s parent company, stated:

“It is important to be responsive to the needs of our customers and to the market as a whole. There is an increasing segment of hosting users seeking no-fills, bare-bones virtual servers that put all the focus on infrastructure and little focus on management, including end-user hosting control panels. We modeled these developer plans on that need. There’s a broad range of uses for these new plans, from administrators needing a virtual server to create a Openfire XMPP Jabber Server or Voice server, to a developer looking to for a testing environment.”

Perhaps even more enticing, managed hosting has only a small uptick in price at $39.99 monthly and offers a terrabyte of data transfer. With free data backups and Ksplice Uptrack, which makes it possible for linux servers to update without rebooting, the VPS servers are extremely convenient.

Central Houston is one of the most influential organizations in the Houston, Texas area. The organization is a non-profit that represents the interests of many of the businesses in central Houston. These Houston businesses are the lifeblood of the city.

Bob Eury, President of Central Houston, said:

“Our organization plays a vital role for Houston’s central core in areas critical to its long-term growth and viability. We focus on issues related to urban planning, economic development, transportation issues, public safety, governmental affairs, and cultural and entertainment programs. Our office provides a historical repository for downtown Houston, so safe data storage is critical. Just like other firms, we require off-site data storage. The Planet Storage Cloud provides redundancy and backup to protect our critical assets, and offers the peace of mind that we’re protected.”

It is the Central Houston organization that has been behind much of the efforts in redeveloping the downtown Houston area. Many of the biggest companies in Houston and perhaps the world are members: Chevron, Continental Airlines, Deloitte, ExxonMobil, JPMorgan Chase, KBR, Shell, the St. Joseph Medical Center, Bank of America, and even the Houston Branch of the private banking organization the “Federal” Reserve is a member (as “federal” as the ‘federal express’, A.K.A. FedEx).

Douglas J. Erwin, The Planet’s Chairman and Chief Executive Officer, stated:

“Central Houston sets the pace for downtown, serving as the hub for activities that impact virtually every operating core. Storage Cloud provides the capacity required to retain critical data, which Central Houston recognizes. We encourage companies, whether they host their IT infrastructure with The Planet or elsewhere, to consider storage and backup as strategic components. We’ve heard far too many stories about businesses that were unable to recover after a devastating data loss.”

The selection of The Planet’s Storage Could for their services definitely goes to show an extremely high level of trust in the Planet. It may be one of the most established clients The Planet has ever served.

Anthony Recine, Vice President of Verizon Business’ Network and Communications Solutions Marketing division, stated:

“As the only U.S.-based global service provider to achieve both Master UC and Master Security specializations, we can deliver some of the most secure, integrated solutions available today.
Achieving the award is no walk in the park. The Cisco Master U.C. Specializiation is one of many ranks in the Cisco program.

IBM announced the opening of a new data center to add support for new compute models like cloud computing. Only one of 450 IBM data centers worldwide, the 100,000 square feet facility will be located at the IBM Research Triangle Park, “RTP”, campus. The $362 million investment in North Carolina was welcomed by the Governor of the state with some warm words. North Carolina Governor Bev Perdue said:

“I thank IBM for its continued commitment to North Carolina. This facility promises to be one of IBM’s greenest data centers in the world, proving once again that green is gold for North Carolina. Growing North Carolina’s green economy plays a critical role in my mission to create jobs and to ensure our state’s economy is poised to be globally competitive in the long term.”

Following up on the Governor’s comments, IBM issued a statement of their own regarding the important role the data center will play for IBM. Pat Kerin, general manager of IBM North America, mentioned:

“Data centers have always been a critical part of IBM’s global technology services – and they will be even more important as the processes, infrastructure, and systems that define business today become increasingly connected and intelligent. This new facility not only sets new standards for energy efficiency, but provides the flexible capacity that allows IBM to deliver services that enable clients to reduce costs, improve productivity, and gain competitive advantage in their markets.”

One of the first customers to migrate was the United States Golf Association (USGA) and their USOPEN.com business. AlexWithers, managing director of Digital Media for the United States Golf Association, stated:

“The migration of our USOPEN.com operations to IBM’s new data center in Research Triangle Park, North Carolina reduced our energy consumption by 38 percent and floor space requirements by 54 percent. We count on IBM to deliver a cost effective, reliable and scalable hosting environment that supports the presentation of our world-class championships to players and fans.”

Overall the move seems to be a win-win situation for everybody and is sure to provide jobs in North Carolina at a critical time.

Jeremy Sherwood, VP Sales and Operations at Opus Interactive, said:

“Partnering with Rubicon further illustrates the successful track record and reputation we are creating among agencies. We were created within an agency, and while now an independent organization we still maintain an intimate understanding of the unique demands that agencies are under. This helps both in creating solutions and providing customer service.”

Opus Interactive stands to gain a lot from the partnership, and Rubicon feels secure with their services. In explaining their choice Rubicon stated the peace of mind he feels entrusting his IT needs to Opus Interactive.

Ben Oh, Director of Operations at Rubicon, said:

“We chose Opus as our IT partner primarily because of their personable and prompt customer support. With a fully managed service that is SAS 70 compliant and fully secure, we have full confidence that our servers will simply be ‘taken care of’ as we continue to grow our business.”

Opus Interactive is a member of the International Managed Services Provider Alliance.

The Planet has now announced plans to invest $7 million into their Houston and Dallas properties, enhancing their network infrastructure. The plan will vastly increase the number of 10 Gig-E links the company utilizes. Colocation and managed hosting customers should also expect to see capacity upgrades in the near future.

Douglas J. Erwin, Chief Executive Officer and Chairman of The Planet, said:

“Our network and data centers are core to the value we provide customers, and over the past three years, we’ve made significant investments to improve speed, reduce latency and ultimately provide the best customer experience. Even with these investments, our growth has outpaced requirements as customers place more demands on our network. Ultimately we’ll deliver improvements in orders of magnitude that offer increased capacity, and even more resilience and fault tolerance.”

The Planet expects to being the upgrades in March, and finish them before the end of the year.
