MarkMonitor DtecNet Acquisition
MarkMonitor, a enterprise brand protection solutions company, has finalized their acquisition of DtecNet. The global anti-piracy solutions provider DtecNet has a strong presence in Europe. The DtecNet development team is based in Copenhagen, Denmark and their operations center is based in the capitol of the baltic country Lithuania: Vilnius. The famous Danish finance publication Borsen recently awarded DtecNet with their ‘Gazelle’ award for their growing financial success.
Irfan Salim, CEO of MarkMonitor, said:
“Piracy of digital content on the Internet is a severe and growing problem. The acquisition of DtecNet expands the MarkMonitor brand protection arsenal, adding the industry’s most comprehensive anti-piracy technology and expertise, providing a proactive approach to fighting the global problem of online piracy.”
DtecNet offers solutions to companies that help to pinpoint the location of violating websites and P2P networks to assist copyright holders in removing the accessibility of pirated content. The company claims up to $200 billion is lost worldwide from pirated content (forgetting some users who pirate, from 3rd world countries for example, could never afford the product in the first place). It would also be wise to point out that the money would be going to the arts (movies, music, games), not an economically critical field such as manufacturing or agriculture (what doesn’t put food in our stomachs, clothes on our backs, and shelter over our heads, and perhaps in the modern age, fuel in our tanks, is not a vital economic industry in a recession).
